Causes of atrial fibrillation: there are certain conditions that you have that can predispose you to atrial fibrillation. One of the biggest causes of atrial fibrillation is that excess alcohol use and we usually see this after the holidays where people are binge drinking and we see a lot of admissions for atrial fibrillations in the hospitals. Other risk factors for atrial fibrillation include if you have a chronic lung disease, if you've ever had any kind of procedures on your heart that can predispose you to atrial fibrillation. Also, thyroid illnesses - any abnormalities related to your thyroid - can lead to atrial fibrillation along with hypertension and diabetes.
